If We Are The Body

I've just discovered Casting Crowns - literally 30 minutes ago. I'm really liking them - quality music with an Americana-Rock sort of feel, combined with solid words that drip with passion. I've just heard If We Are The Body from their first album, and been impressed with the fact that we have an anaemic ecclesiology.

Select lyrics include:

But if we are the Body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way

Jesus paid much too high a price
For us to pick and choose who should come
And we are the Body of Christ

What are we doing when we make church just about coming and getting our needs met? Whether that be enjoying the worship, appreciating the teaching or the cosy feel of fellowship. Where amongst us is the aspect of Christ who is the Chief Apostle, Evangelist and Good Shepherd who went seeking the lost? Where is the outreach? Where is the concern for those that are languishing for lack of Him?

I'm processing a few thoughts right now, but the safest thing to say is that we need Jesus to train us in how to let His whole ministry operate through the church in these days. Not just the bits we like and make us feel comfortable. It's scary and challenging, but just a little bit exciting too.

Check out "Oceans Above" - I think you'd like the mixes of some of the most recently popular "worship" songs.

Hello Jon,
You made your site so simple yet elegant but I see that you don’t write here much anymore!
I want to help people to really get to know God, especially in these troubled times. I have an important message for everyone from the Bible: "This world as you see it - is on its way out." (1Corinthians 7:31) (Message Bible)
